German wine is enjoying increasing popularity in the domestic market. But how well is German wine being received abroad? More precisely: in the southern neighboring country of Switzerland? The "Best of Germany" competition put the German Crus in the Swiss specialist trade under the microscope (45 WINE DEALERS from Switzerland | 460 SUBMITTED WINES from all 13 German wine-growing regions):
1st PLACE in the category "WHITE BURGUNDY DRY" &
Nomination in the category "BEST BUY BETWEEN 20 AND 30 FRANCS" (only 5 wines mentioned in total)
2019 Herrenletten Weissburgunder
VDP. Erste Lage dry
"Lemon tart, also lemongrass on the nose. Well structured, fine yellow-white fruit notes, also wet stone, salt marshes, as well as salt capers and rosemary. On the palate, a fine sweet tip such as meringue stands out. A multi-layered wine with enormous potential." | Drinking recommendation: 2021 to 2035
Nomination in the category "BEST BUY BETWEEN 15 AND 20 FRANCS" (only 5 wines mentioned in total)
2019 Haardt Riesling
VDP.Ortswein dry
"Playful, floral nose. Dark green, spicy, piquant on the palate. Good structure, with balanced aromas. Shows tension and tension." | Drinking recommendation: 2021 to 2031
Our importer for Switzerland: Peterkuhnweine.ch | Dielsdorf (mostly awarded Swiss distributor at "BEST OF DEUTSCHLAND")
With Darius Peter Kozlowksi, the new owner of the property opposite, Mandelring 34 (formerly August Schleier, Obst und Gemüse), we today signed a handshake on a lease agreement that will secure us the use of the associated garden property for the next 30 years.
Despite the modest size, this increase in terrain has an important meaning for us: The narrow, but elongated parcel is the last missing piece of the puzzle in our Grand Cru vineyard Bürgergarten "Im Breumel", which can now finally be completed after many decades.
What previously stood like a wall between our garden and our flagship vineyard will in future be a vineyard and not only open up the view to the northeast, but also give us direct access from the south.
We thank Mr. Kozlowski for his far-sighted decision and look forward to a good neighborhood.
With Two Rock Wine we now also have an importer on the Bermuda Islands. Two Rock is an importer, wholesaler and retailer at the same time and trades in fine wine, beer and spirits. The focus of the extensive wine range is on high-quality terroir wines from small, family-run wineries like us, preferably from organic or biodynamic production. We are looking forward to a good start with owner Mathew Macdonald. Cheers!
With Freshippo (formerly Fresh Hema) and its new X Membership Stores, we now have another strong partner on the Chinese market. The rapidly growing food retail chain, which is part of Alibaba, owes its success to a revolutionary new retail concept that cleverly merges the worlds online and offline. Our minerally elegant wines with their traditional, high-quality features and its convincing story fit perfectly into this format. We hope for a good start and look forward to many new Müller-Catoir fans in the Middle Kingdom.
With our new importer Overseas / Vinarte and its large branch network, we are back on the Japanese market after several years of abstinence. At the time, the fine dry / fruity qualities dominated, today the focus is clearly on the dry wines. The favorite wine -as often- is our Haardt Riesling, which is also part of the hard core of the range of most other importers. We are looking forward to a good cooperation.
Overseas / Vinarte import wines & delicacies for their own shops, cafes and restaurants as well as for wholesalers. Our wines are sold directly in the Kaldi shops. The first "Kaldi Coffee Farm" was opened in 1986 as a coffee roastery, first adding Italian food and later food and wine from all over the world to its range. There are currently 448 “Kaldi Coffee Farm” stores.
Young Japanese people in particular (and foreigners living in Japan) love the Kaldi stores, which are mostly furnished in dark wood and are located in the best city locations and offer everything your heart desires, from Dresden stollen to Italian salami and oriental spices. The group also owns its own wineries under the name “Camel Farm Co. Ltd.”.

Tradition and elegance - two attributes with which the Müller-Catoir winery is often associated. Why? Because the business, including its imposing, listed building complex, is now in the ninth generation and has been family-owned since the middle of the 18th century. Because it is the complexity of the fine Rieslings that made the name internationally known. Because at Müller-Catoir they know how to turn the peculiarities of the terroir around Neustadt into exceptional wines. Anyone who looks between the radiance and the pomp also recognizes: The success of this long-established winery also lies in the basis, driven by a striving for perfectionism in every nuance.
RESTAURANT WINE® has finally published the "GERMAN WINE REPORT - 2018 VINTAGE". In the collective edition #190–193 of "Restaurant Wine" Master of Wine and Master Sommelier Ronn Wiegand dedicates himself to the Rieslings and Silvaners of Germany´s 2018 vintage. With 6 wines rated best (5 stars) Müller-Catoir again scores particularly well in the "Star Listings" and thus confirms its reputation as one of the best wineries in Germany.
