2024

A nearly hot March with very early bud break, followed by a cold and very changeable April and an unusually nasty May with a high risk of late frost. Everything hangs in the balance – with a bit of luck, we'll be spared. The summer is a bit like it used to be, with sufficient, almost abundant rain without any major heat waves. The start to autumn is very warm – almost sweltering at night. The harvest begins somewhat hesitantly but quickly picks up speed, ending in October (October 5th) for the first time in a long time.

The warmest winter to date, no snow anywhere, and record temperatures already at the end of January. Rainfall continues to be scarce, with the drought steadily increasing. In mid-July, the weather takes a turn for the worse – rain – now heavy rain until the end of August. Warmth and humidity force an early harvest. Blessed are those who have tended their vineyards well. Rot pressure continues to increase, stabilizing with increasingly dry weather, and the rapid, selective hand-picking allows for the best grapes. The harvest ends early on September 25th.

A dry winter with a warm spring, a brief winter break at the end of April with wet snow and a long-awaited 80 liters of precipitation, a hot and dry early summer, and a relieving thunderstorm at Whitsun mitigated the drought. The summer started off dry and hot, dry until the end of the grape harvest – the driest growing season to date. The early, rapid harvest in the summer air ended on September 29th.

A small summer already in February, but with record temperatures. In March, there is snow and moisture, cool in April, cold in May, two weeks of summer in the second half of June with perfect conditions for vine flowering. A very wet phase from June to mid-July, the summer is mixed and cool until the end of August, then warm nights with very positive ripening spurts. On September 21, a comparatively late start to the grape harvest. Good and warm weather allows the main harvest to end on October 19.

Spring starts early with azure blue skies and a cool easterly wind. Dryness sets in very early again - the year with the lowest rainfall during the growing season. Moderate summer temperatures provide relief in between. Early August sees some heat spikes again. The very early flowering of the vines and the second earliest start to the harvest on September 3 coincide with the earliest harvest completion on September 25.

Another early dry year - the seasonal development phases seem to be moving further forward. August slows down the impending overheating. Cool and sunny, it brings freshness and calm. The harvest begins relatively late on September 11 despite the early flowering but continues very dynamically and ends after just three weeks on October 3.

A relatively warm start to the growing season, torrential rainfall from mid-May to the end of June, which makes organic management of the vineyards extremely challenging. Summer sets in at the beginning of July and does not leave until early November. Despite all the rainfall, the ripening phase is very dry, with a slow ripening process allowing for all possibilities during the harvest.

The next warm year with low rainfall but without weather extremes. A balanced, calm vegetation allows for a peaceful autumn with a beautiful selection of noble sweet specialties.

2014

A record spring with early budding and explosive growth until early summer. Sun and warmth until mid-July. August is mixed and overcast, darker than ever. The weather remains challenging until the end of the harvest, but many picking passes and balanced organic management allow for all quality levels.

The last truly cold winter with snow lasting until Easter and a cold spring. The summer is balanced. High rainfall from mid-September leads to a hectic autumn with good results.

2012

A sunny, dry spring with a constant risk of night frost from mid-April makes the experiences of the previous year unforgettable. A sunny, balanced summer follows. Picture-perfect weather in October slows down the autumn. The harvest ends at the end of October with the first snow on the peaks of the Palatinate Forest.

2011

Winter is over at the beginning of January, brisk budding and very pleasant spring, warm April with very early bloom, even before 2007, extreme cold air intrusion on May 4-5 with late frosts, after which the calm is over. Quite a hectic summer without a break. A wet August leads to the earliest harvest start, beginning September 6. It continues very hectically, but the drier weather phase from mid-September reconciles us again towards the end of autumn.

2010

Cold, wet, long winter, quite nice April followed by a terribly cold May, very late bloom until the end of June, short heat phase in July, then again cool and wet, short intense summer temperatures at the beginning of October.

2009

Cold winter, early summer by the first of April, very warm, almost tropical June and July with a lot of water. Last summer rainfall on August 10 and then dry until the end of October. Very calm, almost relaxing harvest, with time for many little things one always wanted to try. The main harvest ends already on October 15. First year with purely organic farming.

2008

Cold winter, spring starts in April, quite mixed, normal summer weather with rather late bloom, very cold and wet at the beginning of September with first harvest results from the 18th, which lead to further waiting, weather change around the 25th with mid-dry, stabilizing autumn weather.

Very warm winter, a single frost night with -2°C, very sunny, summery spring, summer 2007 ends in early May, extremely early vine bloom at the end of May, very humid and also cool weather phase that slows down vegetation until the end of August. From early September, Californian conditions return with bright blue days and cool nights. The botrytis that started in the humidity at the end of August dries out in the following weeks to yield dream results. Very early start to harvesting on September 8, ending on October 18 after almost 6 weeks of harvesting under blue skies. First attempts at organic viticulture.

Long, wet, cold winter, mixed spring with late bloom, crazy summer: the hottest and driest July ever recorded in contrast to the coldest and rainiest August (hail showers on the 14th). Tropical conditions from September 10 lead to a lightning harvest. End of harvest on October 13.

2005

Wet, cold winter until April, then nice spring weather and a very dry, quite normal summer. Lower precipitation from April to September than in the heat year of 2003. After September rains around the 15th, very quick start to harvesting and a fairly swift end to the harvest.

2004

Warm, sunny spring, cool early summer and summer with a late bloom. Weather calms down from October 3 with increasingly slightly wetter days. Calm autumn weather prone to fog and late sunshine, one of the longest and latest harvests. Start on October 11 until December 4.

2003

Cold, wet winter, sunny start from the end of February until the end of September, with the last significant summer rainfall as thunderstorms at the end of May. Records in heat periods, weather change in mid-October directly into winter, snow-covered ridge around October 18. Only after this cool phase do the grapes develop an elegant minerality.

2002

Cool start to the vegetation, followed by a very warm May and June. The summer turns at the beginning of July and does not return. Very humid and rainy autumn, almost no reading day without precipitation.
