Product description

Tasting Note

The Mandelgarten Riesling is a fruity variation on the regional Riesling: many juicy, ripe pears, pepper and flowery hints of jasmine. Its velvety Riesling body is fresh and full of life.

Awards

2022: James Suckling: 94/100 "A fragrant and graceful dry riesling that shows how attractive and beautifully balanced the 2022 vintage wines can be. Delicate peach and floral aromas with fascinating detail. After a little aeration in the glass you feel the underplayed power more and the finish gains in length. Built to last."| enos Riesling Challenge: 2nd place | Ronn Wiegand (RESTAURANT WINE® Issues #216-#223, Summer 2025): 4+/5 "The Mandelgarten is excellent: ripe and fine in aroma and flavor (peach, candied lemon, pineapple), it is moderately intense, well balanced, and persistent on the finish. Drinks well now, but likely best in 2026 and after. Excellent value!"

2020: wein.plus: "Restrained, relatively cool, fairly light yellow fruity nose with vegetal and mineral nuances. Ripe, juicy, light fruit, floral and vegetal notes, lively acidity and some grip, persistent on the palate, still a touch muted, certain depth, distinct mineral notes, very good, quite firm finish. " excellent (90 WP) top position | James Suckling: 95/100 "Such a joyful, floral nose with notes of rose and honeysuckle, plus a hint of smoke. And that’s only the beginning for this dry riesling, which can hold its own with any number of GGs, thanks to the impressive concentration of citrus fruit and nectarine. The vibrant acidity and subtle mineral freshness underline each other at the very long and expressive finish. Drink or hold."

2018: James Suckling: 95/100 Points "Beautiful flint and chalk character, creating a real sensation of freshness and minerality on the nose. Lemon curd and plenty of earl-grey and green tea are in no short supply. The medium-to full-bodied palate is vertical and tense with gleaming acidity and a colorful, building finish. Drink in 2021." | Robert Parker: 91+/100 Points "The 2018 Mandelgarten Riesling is pure, fresh and fine, but also ripe and aromatic on the nose. The palate is pure, fresh and straight, less juicy now than the 2017 but nuanced and stimulating due to an earlier harvest. Stimulatingly salty and piquant on the finish."

2017: James Suckling: 95/100 | Finalist "Vinum Riesling-Champion 2018"

The vintage 2020

Spring starts early with azure blue skies and a cool easterly wind. Dryness sets in very early again - the year with the lowest rainfall during the growing season. Moderate summer temperatures provide relief in between. Early August sees some heat spikes again. The very early flowering of the vines and the second earliest start to the harvest on September 3 coincide with the earliest harvest completion on September 25.
