Product description

Tasting Note

The delicate combination of fruitiness and acidity make up the light and lively Spätlese from the Haardt Bürgergarten. Its fruitiness has intense notes of stone fruit combined with an amazing juiciness.

Awards

2024: James Suckling: 96/100 "What a beautiful Spatlese. This has the combination of ripeness, freshness and delicacy that this category is all about. Barely off-dry on the barely medium-bodied palate. Fantastic peachy fruit and no less fantastic clarity at the super-grapey finish."

2023: James Suckling: 97/100 "Brimming with delicate orange blossom, mandarin orange and nectarine aromas, this is a fabulously fresh and precise riesling Spatlese that barely tastes sweet. Instead it is enormously refreshing and precise on the barely medium-bodied palate. Simultaneously delightful and deep right through the extremely long finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

2022: James Suckling: 97/100 (Best Riesling Spätlese 2023) "A super-elegant riesling Spatlese with extremely fine peachy fruit that wraps its tendrils around you and won’t let go. So deep and precise with a pronounced salty minerality that drives the extremely long and focused finish, dazzling the senses and the mind. Built for the long haul!"

2018: James Suckling: 94/100 Points "Crushed dill and coriander meet with bright citrus, loquats and pears. Only off-dry and very balanced with a well-judged component of acidity doing wonders for the mineral, expressive finish. Dialed-in and beautiful to drink now, but better to cellar for a decade. Drink now." | RESTAURANT WINE® Issues #190-193: 4+/5 stars "An exceptional Spätlese, this 2018 Burgergarten is round, light medium bodied, and fairly rich; a wine with refined character (pear, white peach, pineapple, lime, honeydew melon), good balance, and a very long, lingering finish. Delicious; warrants further aging. Aged in stainless steel. Organic."

2017: James Suckling: 95/100 | Finalist "Vinum Riesling-Champion 2018"

2016: James Suckling: 94/100 | Finalist vinum Riesling Champion 2017 | Wein-Plus: 90/100 | Antonio Galloni (vinous): 92/100

The vintage 2024

A nearly hot March with very early bud break, followed by a cold and very changeable April and an unusually nasty May with a high risk of late frost. Everything hangs in the balance – with a bit of luck, we'll be spared. The summer is a bit like it used to be, with sufficient, almost abundant rain without any major heat waves. The start to autumn is very warm – almost sweltering at night. The harvest begins somewhat hesitantly but quickly picks up speed, ending in October (October 5th) for the first time in a long time.
